Phil began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Amarillo, Texas, serving from 1979 to 1981. In 1981, he returned to his hometown of Borger, where he established a law practice that he operated until 1994. He then moved to Abilene, Texas, where he built a successful law practice for over 30 years, providing legal assistance to countless individuals in the Abilene area. An avid golfer, Phil was often seen driving down Antilley Road in his golf cart, with his golf clubs and fishing pole, heading to the Abilene Country Club to play golf with friends and cast a line in the nearby lake. Golf was his passion, and he treasured every opportunity to play with his sons, Zane and Joel, and his golf buddies. He also shared a love of Texas Tech sports with his oldest grandson, Austin.
Phil loved spending time with Selden and his family at their lake house, where they fished and watched his grandchildren, Lexi and Ian tubing behind the boat.
