James J. Haning, 90, died Tuesday April 8, 2014 at his home in Borger. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at 1st Baptist Church of Borger with the children and grandchildren officiating. Private family graveside will be at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
James came to Borger in 1939 and worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. where he drove a transport truck, from 1944 to 1949 he worked in the oil field as a pusherforeman for E. L. Beakley. James married the love of his life Barbara Skaggs March 3, 1945. He then bought two trucks and hauled pipe for Benny Benjamin at Central Pipe and Supply from the coast and from Chicago. James went into business with Morris Cooper to form Cooper and Haning Dozer Service from 1965 until 1978. He retired for a year and then started Haning Dozer Service with his wife Barbara from 1979 until 2009. He enjoyed working and having breakfast at the Nuway Caf.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren Shawn Rogers and Jami Rexanne Prewit, four sisters and two brothers and his parents.
James is survived by his wife of 69 years Barbara, two sons Jerry Haning and wife Nancy and Mike Haning and wife Liz both of Amarillo, two daughters Shirley Anderson and husband Gary of Amarillo and Suellen Dammann and husband Jim of Midland, 5 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
