James Martin Meekins, 80, died Sunday, November 24, 2019 in Amarillo. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Church of Christ at Borger. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors. The family will greet visitors at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
James was born in Big Sandy, Texas to David and Cora Belle (Jones) Meekins. He was raised by Wallace Burnley. He graduated from Borger High School in 1959. James was a member of the Church of Christ on Jim Hall St. He was very active as Song Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director, Associate Pastor, church treasurer, and worked as a counselor. James was also a past Chairman of the Boys Scouts, past Chairman of B.T. W. Youth Center, and a Little League Baseball coach. James also worked as a chaplain at prisons in Pampa and Amarillo.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Cora Lee and wife, Ruby.
He is survived by his son Ivan Geoffrey Meekins and wife, Vicky of Arlington; daughter Daphne Lynette Meekins of Borger; brother Michael Burnley of Dallas; sisters, Bettye Manzay of DeSoto, Texas and Elinor Eastman of Colorado Springs, Colorado. James was blessed with one granddaughter, Alyssa Brooke Meekins.
