James Morgan

August 3, 1930 — October 10, 2016

James W. " Bill " Morgan, 86, went to meet the Lord on Monday, October 10, 2016.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 15th at Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Burwash, pastor, Fairlanes Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

James was born in Lonaconing, Maryland to Sarah and Joseph Morgan on August 3, 1930. He served in the US Air Force for 26 1/2 years and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant on June 1, 1974. He was both in the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retirement, he spent the next 43 years in Fritch, Texas, which he dearly loved. He moved to The Woodlands with his wife, Opal, to be closer to his daughter, LaDonna McIlwain, because of health issues. Bill and Opal moved to The Conservatory, an independent living community, where they resided for 3 years before Bill passed away. His wife, Opal, was the love of his life and they would have been married 60 years on December 15, 2016. Bill and Opal were longtime members of Fairlanes Baptist Church.

Bill was a devoted husband and father, and was loved by many. He never hesitated to help anyone that needed it. His daughter, LaDonna, always had a saying for him, "Dad, you're the cream of the crop" which always brought a smile to his face. He was kind and passionate man who dearly loved his only child, La Donna and considered Greg, her husband, as a son and best friend. Bill cherished his grandchildren, Morgan and Marc, and was very proud of them.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Opal, of The Woodlands; daughter, LaDonna McIlwain and husband Greg of Montgomery, Texas; granddaughter, Morgan McIlwain of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandson, Marc McIlwain of Midland, Texas; sister, Anna Clark and her husband Tex; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother and estranged father, two sisters and three brothers. Bill will be greatly missed.
