James Charles "J.C." Prather, 80, of Fritch passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 in Amarillo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
J.C. Prather was born August 7, 1936 in Roanoke, Alabama to William and Marsha (Cato) Prather. He was the youngest of eight siblings, and served his country in the United States Air Force where he fought in the Vietnam War, and the Korean Conflict. J.C. retired after 20 years. He also retired from the State of Oklahoma as a correctional officer.
J.C. was an avid reader, and you could always find him enjoying a book. He enjoyed golf, going to the casinos, traveling, playing horse shoes, card games, fishing, and shooting skeet.
J.C. married Sue Sirmons March 4, 1955 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and was a lifetime member of the VFW McAlester Oklahoma Post, DAV, and the Moose Lodge in Ruskin, Florida.
Survivors include his son David Prather of Sanford; two daughters Veronica Archer and husband Larry of Kissimmee, Florida, Rebecka Gross and husband Dennis of Fritch; 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sue, May 7, 2009, and seven siblings.
