Janelle Steinkoenig

Janelle W. Steinkoenig, 87, left this earth to begin her teaching career in heaven on Monday, November 15, 2010. Born to Jesse and Lula Womble in Hansford County on February 5, 1923, Janelle graduated from Spearman High School in 1940. She received her Bachelors Degree from West Texas Teachers College in 1943 and later received a Masters Degree in 1957. She spent countless hours teaching primary schoolchildren in Spearman and Borger until her retirement after 38 years. She continued to teach her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and many others until she left us.

She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, National Education Association, National Education Association, Delta Zeta, Delta Kappa Gamma, and many other organizations. Known for her beautiful roses, Janelle was an avid gardener in her retirement and a collector of many things.

Janelle is predeceased by her parents and her son Joseph Patrick Steinkoenig, brothers Joe Douglas Womble and Dale Womble, and greatgrandson Tyler Steinkoenig.

She leaves a loving family of sons Richard Steinkoenig and wife Judy of Boulder, CO and Mike Steinkoenig of Amarillo, grandchildren Rich Steinkoenig, Margaret Pacheco, Natalie Grant, Holden Parrish, Erica Anderson, Michael Steinkoenig, J. Kathryn Steinkoenig and Stephanie Steinkoenig and many greatgrandchildren. Additionally, she embraced two daughters received late in life, Cheryl Steinkoenig Martens and Nancy Steinkoenig Brewer.

Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hansford Cemetery in Spearman followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Minton Memorial Chapel with Jake Minton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

In lieu of flowers, Janelle asked that donations be in the form of educating a child, even if it is simply reading to a child or buying a book for a child. Monetary donations should be made to a charity of the donors choice as long as it is geared towards educating a child.

The family will be staying at 1520 S. Austin in Amarillo.
