Jay C. Childers passed away on the afternoon of January 16th, 2008, in Amarillo, TX. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joella; his step-father, Guy Byrn; and his mother, Jesse Byrn. He will be remembered by his wife of 60 years, Lorene Childers of Borger, TX; his daughter, Sharon Platz and her husband Richard of Amarillo; his grandson, Jason Sheets of Brownsville, TX; his granddaughter, Jessica Maxwell and her husband Heath of Arlington, VA, who are expecting Jay's first great grandchild in May; his sister, Emogene Green and her husband Paul of Laramie, WY; his nieces, Paula Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Pam Cullen of North Platte, Nebraska, and Sharia Gail Nichols of Achille, Oklahoma; and his faithful pups Elvis and Peggy Sue.
Jay was born on April 2, 1919, in Wade, Oklahoma. After honorably serving in the army during World War II, he returned to the states and married Lorene Ramey on May 17 th, 1947, in Sherman, TX. Shortly thereafter he and Rene moved to Borger, and Jay began his career in the oil field. After spending over fifty years in the oil business Jay decided to retire in May of 1999.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Leonard Forsythe, Pastor of Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in The Garden of Serenity at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
