Funeral services for Jerry Thomas McClure, 79, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the 1st Southern Baptist Church in Fritch with Rev. Justin Unwin, Pastor of the 1st Assembly of God in Fritch and Rev. Darrell Trout Pastor of Harvest Time Church in Midland officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
Jerry Thomas McClure, 79 of Fritch passed away peacefully Thursday, March 17, 2011. Jerry was born in Shawnee Oklahoma on September 28, 1931 to Otto and Irene Taylor McClure. He married his soul mate and the love of his life Shirley Ann Thrasher on March 18, 1951. Jerry served as a Staff Sargeant in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served eight years on the Borger City Council from 1970 to 1980. He served two terms as the Mayor of Borger. During this time he served three years on the Board of Panhandle Region Planning Commission and for one year on the Governors Board of Directors under Governor Bill Clements. He loved everyone and serving his community. He was a Borger Jaycee, boxing coach for 3 years, servied meals on wheels and was a Deacon in the Fritch Assembly of God Church.
He was a loving devoted husband, father and grandfather. A true Ray of Sunshine in his family and friends lives. Jerry will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing and loving him. He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Jerry Wayne McClure of Hobbs New Mexico, daughter Lisa McClure of Fritch and son Caleb Thomas McClure of the home, two grandsons Jared and Logan and two granddaughters Whitney and Lindsay and two great grandsons Davy and Mason. Two brothers Taylor McClure of Rockwell, TX and Bill McClure of Norman, Ok.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, three brothers and a grandson Caleb Wayne McClure.
