If you knew Jewel Cannon, you knew that ordinary simply wasn’t her style. So, in true Jewel fashion, we refuse to make this an ordinary obituary.
Jewel Lee “MeMaw” Rasco Cannon took her final bow on February 12, 2025, at 9:15 p.m., surrounded by love, peace, and—true to her nature—without pain slowing her down. Born on September 4, 1939, this fiery Irishwoman spent 85 years making sure the world knew she had arrived, and boy, did she leave an impression.
Jewel wasn’t just the life of the party; she was the party. She traveled, shopped, painted, danced, and occasionally found herself in situations that can only be described as legendary (ask anyone about the army tank—it’s a classic). She had a knack for turning even the most mundane moments into stories worth telling.
In November 1960, she married the love of her life, George Cannon, and together, they built a family as full of personality as she was. She leaves behind her children: Brett (Melinda) of Borger, TX; Bridgett (Tommy) Marshall of Fritch, TX; and Shealee (Brandon) Mitchell of Fort Worth, TX. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren—Cody, Chad, Callie, Currie, Rylan, Taylor, Wayne, Traven, and McKenzie—who were lucky enough to inherit her spark, and her 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, who will no doubt hear the tales of their unforgettable MeMaw for years to come. She now holds her beautiful great-grandson Aiden Marshall in her arms once more.
Jewel was a fighter. She stared down strokes, heart attacks, and lung cancer with the same determination she used to find the best bargain in a department store. In the end, it was kidney failure and breathing difficulties that finally convinced her it was time to rest—but not without one last fight. Weak? Never. Stubborn? Absolutely.
She always hated when obituaries danced around the truth of how someone passed, so we won’t insult her now with vagueness. Instead, we’ll send her off the only way she would want: with laughter, love, and maybe a little mischief.
Jewel Cannon didn’t just live—she lived. And if heaven wasn’t ready for her, well… they better catch up.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in the Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park. Jewel will lie in state at Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors in Fritch from 9 am to 8 pm on Friday, February 14, 2025.
The family will be gathering at Bridgett and Tommy Marshall's home in Fritch.
