Jewell Triplett

Jewell Estella Triplett, 93, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in Fritch.

A celebration of life service will be a2 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptists Church with Rev. Jeff Hutchison, Pastor officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.

Jewell was born on July 27, 1917 in Marlow, Oklahoma to Collomer Elizabeth Holt and James Elmer Lowe. Collomer Elizabeth was an original enrollee on the rolls of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

At the beginning of the Depression in 1931, Jewells family moved to California. In 1932, they moved to Sam Norwood, Texas where she finished high school.

In 1938, Jewell married Frank Lookadoo and they farmed near Quail, Texas. In 1943, Jewell became a machine operator on the midnight shift in a defense plant. Women who worked the defense plants during WW II later became known as Rosie the Riveter. After the war, they moved to Fritch, Texas. In 1953, Frank passed away and Jewell went to work for Natural Gas Pipeline Company in the office.

In 1957, Jewell married J. R. Triplett and they were married for 53 years. Jewell and J.R. made a great team as community and church volunteers. There was never a job too big for them to tackle. If there was a need within the community of Fritch, they were there to lend a hand. In 1994, Jewell and J.R. were chosen by KVII, Channel 7 television in Amarillo as members of their Seven Who Care volunteer team. These volunteers were chosen from a list submitted by members of their community. Jewell had an untiring work ethic and a true love thy neighbor attitude that made her a near perfect parent, friend and community volunteer. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Jewell is survived by husband J.R. of the home, daughter Linda Lookadoo of Lubbock, TX, daughter Sheila Mick and husband Terry of Briscoe, TX, son Frank Lookadoo and wife Mary of Mineola, TX and numerous grand and greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
