Jimmy A. Roby went home to be with the LORD on Saturday, September 4, 2010. He was surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Memorial services will be 1:30 pm Tuesday at Keeler Baptist Church with Roy D. Roby officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger
Jimmy was born the first of three children to Terry D. and Marie Hopkins Roby, on March 10, 1936 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated from Borger High School in 1954. Jimmy entered the United States Army in June of 1955 and was stationed in Virginia.
On December 31, 1955, he married the love of his life Bette Joy Ayling, in Clayton, New Mexico. After Jimmy completed his duty with the Army they moved to the BorgerFritch area, where they resided until his death.
He worked for PANTEX and retired from Phillips Petroleum Company in 1996.
During the 1970s Jimmy was involved with the Fritch 4H club, Fritch Little League, and the Hutchinson County Sheriffs Posse.
Jimmys dedication to God and willingness to serve the church was awe inspiring. He was a member of Keeler Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon until his health began to fail. He also devoted many hours to keeping Keeler Park clean. Jimmy was truly a man who would lay down his life for the Lord. He lost his job of 27 years after refusing to take his Bible out of his pocket. This did not hinder his Faith He continued his walk with Christ and to tell others about Jesus
He was preceded in death by his parents, Terry and Marie Roby and sister, Wanda McMullen.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Bette Joy. One son, Terry Don and wife Dana of Houston. Two daughters: Anita Marie McWilliams and husband Kendell of Borger Kay Griffin and husband Randy of Fritch. Ten grandchildren: Carla Roby Norman and husband David of Pasadena Cayla Roby Northrup and husband Michael of Houston Roby McCollum of Dallas Anna McCollum of Borger Keith McWilliams and wife Lauren of Spring Seth McWilliams of Denton Ryan Griffin and wife Monica of Amarillo Robyn Griffin of Fritch Natalie Griffin Evans and husband Derik of Austin and Hayley Griffin Bower and husband Travis of Amarillo. Six great grandchildren and one on the way. His brother Roy Roby and wife Becky of Casper Wyoming. His aunt Elsie Messenger of Muleshoe, and several nieces and nephews. Jimmy wil also leave behind countless friends whose lives he touched.
The Family will be staying at 1307 Hazelwood St. in Borger.
