Joan Chandler Peiffer, 69, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in Borger.
Services will be 2 pm Saturday at White Deer First Baptist Church with Brother Alan Wilson officiating. Graveside services will follow in White Deer Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Her memory may be honored with a gift to the Amarillo SPCA, 11901 S. Coulter St. Amarillo, TX 79119 or the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center, 6010 Amarillo Blvd. West, Amarillo, TX 79106.
Joan was born August 14, 1947 in Phillips Texas to Bert and Mittie B. Chandler and big sister Mary Jane. She graduated from Phillips High in 1965 and went on to West Texas.
In June of 1967 Joan met Lyle Peiffer, her Knight and Shining armor, on a blind date and they were engaged 3 days later. They married on July 6 of the same year, and were blessed with their only child Leigh Anne in 1969.
Joan was very active in Leigh Anne's school activities along with her church and sorority. She was always one to help those in need. With the help of her husband and young daughter, she accomplished one of her life long dreams and graduated nursing school in 1979. Joan was a dedicated nurse and loved her patients but due to a work related injury she was forced to retire early. Despite her chronic pain, she never stopped enjoying life by being "Mammie" to her granddaughter and "Jody" to her beloved husband.
In January 2017, Joan was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. Despite the odds, she was determined to be a fighter and decided to proceed with treatment. Though her journey was difficult, you never caught her without a smile or a kind word. The highlights of her life were spending time with her daughter Leigh Anne, her "son" in law Ricky, her granddaughter Kendra and her "grandson" Lawton aka "Oklahoma."
She is survived by her daughter, Leigh Anne Poole and husband Ricky of Borger, grandkids Kendra Poole and Lawton Wilkerson of Amarillo, sister, Mary Jane Smith and husband Bob of Lyons, niece Tammy Booth and husband Archie of Carrolton, nephew Jackie Gray and wife Margie of Dilworth MN and her beloved dog Grasshopper and rescue cat Bobbie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Mittie B. Chandler and her husband Lyle O. Peiffer.
