Joe Mike Garcia, 84, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015.
Funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Panhandle, with Joe Garcia, Jr, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Following the graveside service the family invites guests to a pie fellowship at the church. His memory may be honored with a gift to the City of Panhandle Building Fund-EMS, P.O. Box 129, Panhandle, Texas 79068.
Joe was born January 23, 1931 in Panhandle, Texas to Ascension (Sandoval) and Ysidro Garcia. He proudly served for twelve years in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Joe married the love of his life, Helen Coronado on October 20, 1948 in Clarendon, Texas. They attended Grace Fellowship Church in Panhandle, where he was a caretaker of the grounds and building. Joe worked for Carl Johnson Cafe making Mexican food, pies and pastries. He then attended meat cutting school in Toledo, Ohio and proceeded to cut meat at Miller Grocery and Panhandle Thriftway. Joe also worked as an orderly and aid at St. Ann's Nursing Home in Panhandle. He also owned Garcia's Restaurant. Also serving his community as a Carson County Deputy and Chief Jailer he retired in 1993.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Josephine Garcia Sasueda.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of the home; daughters, Susan O'Neal, Gracie Langehennig and husband Dale all of Panhandle; sons, Joe Garcia, Jr. and wife Dawn, Rick Garcia and wife Judy, Tim Garcia and wife Connie all of Amarillo; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and sister, Patsy Parrish Phillips of Amarillo.
