Joe Barton Nivens, 89 of Stinnett, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 in Spearman.
Funeral services will be 2:00p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Minton Memorial Chapel with Mike Kelley of Borger officiating. Burial will follow at the Stinnett Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Visitation will be from 5 to 7p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors in Borger.
Joe Barton Nivens was born June 30, 1927 in Parnell, Texas to Allie Claude and Edna Eunice (Moore) Nivens. He entered into the United States Army April 7, 1946 and was involved in WW II. Joe was honorably discharged as a Sergeant September 22, 1947. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1789, American Legion Post 671, and was a Baptist. Joe was proud of his military service to his country. Joe worked in construction all over the world for various pipeline contractors and moved to Stinnett where he resided since 1960.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Nivens and wife Gail of Stinnett, Edward Nivens of Amarillo, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Peggy Nivens, a brother LT Nivens, and a sister Josephine Nivens.
