John Paul Dauer, 61, died Saturday, November 13, 2010. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church of Panhandle, with Reverend Lewis Holland officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle
Mr. Dauer, a native of Carson County, was born December 9, 1948 in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Panhandle High School in 1967 and went on to complete the Ranch Management Program at TCU in 1971 and received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from OSU in 1972. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in August of 1972, he returned to Panhandle and began his lifelong career of farming and ranching.
On January 9, 1974 he married Dawn Vincent. John Paul and Dawn had a son, Justin Paul. John Paul married Charlotte Snowden on June 9, 1979 and together they had three daughters Amy Ann, Mary Stephanie and Micca Brooke.
John Paul was active in agricultural and cattle associations winning numerous awards including: National Winner Grain Sorghum Producers Association 1986 First Place Winner Texas Grain Sorghum Producers Association 1988. He was also active for many years in the Ft. Worth Stock Show, winning Reserve Grand Champion in 1988 and Grand Champion in 1998.
On December 23, 1997, John Paul married Patricia McKiernan. They continued to live in Panhandle, farming and ranching. John Paul served his church, the First United Methodist of Panhandle, as chairperson of several boards. He also served his community by serving on the Panhandle School Board for 12 years the Texas Hereford Association Board and as Vice President of the McClellan Creek Soil and Water Conservation Board.
He is preceded in death by his father Paul, his mother Margaret, and his wife Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife, Patty five children: Micca Rasp and her husband Joshua, of Arcadia, Oklahoma Justin Dauer and his wife Barbi, of Panhandle Stephanie Sammons and her husband Brad, of Idaho Falls, Idaho Amy Biggs and her husband Ryan, of Frisco and Tomi Gerber and her husband Charles, of Ringwood, New Jersey eight grandchildren, Halee Biggs, Ashby Dauer, Jared Dauer, Katelyn Sammons, Kade Sammons, Tristan Biggs, Chase Gerber, Kesler Sammons and a new baby boy expected to arrive in January and his brother Steve Dauer and wife Ashlee of Rockport, Texas.
The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church of Panhandle and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 2201 Civic Circle 514, Amarillo, TX 791091843
There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 pm to 8 pm
