John Calvin Denton, 91, died October 22, 2014 in Amarillo. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Central Baptist Church with former Pastor Rick Nichols and Tom Wicker officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Brother Denton was born March 23, 1923 in Iredell,Texas to Steve Calvin Denton and Ada Lee Sursa Denton. He married Eulis Carlee Jester on December 23, 1945 in Memphis, TX. God was his employer and he never retired from sharing the Lord. He has been a Pastor all his adult life serving in Borger, Fritch, Gruver, Anchorage, Alaska, Sharp Park and Santa Clara, California, Wichita Falls, Shamrock, Pampa, and Socorro, New Mexico. John proudly served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a Staff Sargent during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, of 67 years, Eulis.
He is survived by three sons, Larry Denton and his wife, Liz of Borger, Mark Denton of Pampa, and Daryl Denton and his wife, Angie of Lefors, two daughters Johna Layton and her husband Bob of Fritch, and Sue Lynn Vallaster and her husband John of Shattuck, OK grandchildren, Susan and Shaun Greenwald, Margaret Walker, Michael and Bree Denton, John and Marie Denton, Amy and David Shaw, Candy and Jeff Watson, Carrie Denton, Krista Denton, Cassandra Denton, Stephen Denton, Matt and McKenzie Denton and greatgrandchildren, Makaela, Levi, Raistlin, Colleen, David, Michael, Olivia and John brothers Clarence Denton and wife, Joy and Charles Denton and wife, Mary all from Amarillo sister Rachell of Austin.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
