John Gillespie

John M. Gillespie passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014.

Memorial services will be held at Westlawn Memorial Park at 12 noon on Saturday, March 15. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Alzheimers Research.

He was a long time resident of Borger having moved here with his wife, Louise, and his oldest daughter, Jane, in 1946. Mr. Gillespie was born in Jermyn, Texas on August 20, 1924. He and Louise were married in Savannah, Georgia on February 14, 1944. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Gillespie owned and operated HiPlains Insulation Company. He served his country in World War II as a Merchant Marine. John was a
member and elder in the Borger Presbyterian Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.

However, he found his calling in helping people overcome addiction. He accomplished this through his forty plus years of service and leadership in Alcoholics Anonymous and Kairos.

He is preceded in death by a son, John Moreland Gillespie Jr. his parents, Doyle and Jewel Gillespie of Jermyn, Texas a sister, Margaret Crager of Jermyn, Texas and a brother, Jim Gillespie of Graham, Texas.

Mr. Gillespie is survived by his loving wife, Louise two daughters, Jane Gillespie of Godfrey, Illinois and Johnnie Gillespie of Santa Fe, New Mexico brothers, Joe Gillespie and his wife, Ann of Burkburnett, Texas, and Ralph Gillespie of Wichita Falls, Texas. He was also the loving uncle of over 20 nephews and nieces. Of those, John Roger Gillespie of Wichita Falls, Texas and Julie Gillespie Lourcey of Fort Worth, Texas were particularly close to Mr. Gillespie.
