John Rickard, Jr.

John Harold Rickard, Jr., 89, formerly of Phillips and Fritch,Texas died Sunday, September 14 in Lockhart, Texas.

Graveside rites will be held at Memory Gardens, Pampa, Texas at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 19th and followed by a celebration of life service at 11:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church with the Rev. James Stephens officiating. Mr. Rickard had been a member of the First Christian Church since 1940, serving as a deacon and an elder. Arrangements are by Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors, Borger, Texas .

Mr. Rickard was born April 28, 1919, in Kaw City, Oklahoma to John Harold, Sr. and Marjorie Ramsey Rickard. He graduated from McLean High School in 1936, went on to attend West Texas State College and then Texas AM University, College Station. Mr. Rickard interrupted his college career to enlist in the U.S. Army in the summer of 1941, and served as an officer in World War II in France and Germany. After returning from the war, he went on to earn his degree in business from West Texas State . He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company for 37 years, retiring in 1982.

Mr. Rickard married Buel Dine Kendrick on June 6, 1942 in Phillips, Texas . Buel Dine preceded Harold in death in 1993 after 51 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Norma Lee Rickard Neilson of Valley Mills, TX.

Survivors include his children, John H. Rickard III and his wife Charlene Hedgecoke Rickard of Bakersfield, CA ; R. Scott Rickard and his wife Sandra Deason Rickard of San Antonio , TX ; Kristi Rickard Horton and her husband Mike Horton of Lockhart , TX . He is also survived by his sister Eula Belle Koop of Spring, TX; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
