John Warren

John Aderson Warren,82 of Borger, died July 7, 2012 in Amarillo at the VA Hospital.
At his request, no services will be held. His ashes will be scattered at the family ranch in Wheeler County.
John was born at home on May 18, 1930 in Boynton, OK and weighed in at 3 pounds. He moved to Borger at age 4 and lived with his family in Huber Camp. He attended and graduated from Borger High School in 1947.
John was a member of the BHS Choir and at age 16 had his own radio show The Johnny Warren Show on KHUZ where he sang crooner songs to his audience.
He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and the University of Texas on an athletic scholarship. In 1948, he attended tryouts for the New York Yankees and was asked to attend their farm club spring training.
John played semiprofessional baseball with stops in Pampa, Duncan, and Ballinger until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1951. He served in Salisburg, Austria as a prison guard and sang in the USO Band. He also played baseball for the United States Army during baseball season. After his discharge in 1953, he returned to his baseball career, playing for Artesia New Mexico, Plainview, Clovis New Mexico, and El Paso. In 1956, John switched from his love of baseball to his love of ranching and became a selfemployed rancher.
In 1960, he went to work for J.M. Huber as a lab technician, but continued to ranch in Wheeler County. He bred and raced quarter horses in Texas and New Mexico. His greatest achievement in racing was Bar Moore Miss who qualified for the highest ranking of AAA.
He worked for Huber for 30 years before retiring in 1991 to enjoy his grandchildren.
John married Gail Sumner in 1968 and they shared a joyous 44year marriage in their home with their two daughters, Susan and Melody.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Frances Warren and Lela Pauline Clark. He is survived by his loving wife Gail, his daughters, Susan Warren Springer and husband Colby, and Melody Warren Lundy and husband Daniel. He is also survived by his pride and joy his five grandchildren: Shanna, Brett, and Blake Lundy, and Cooper and Kennedy Springer. He is also survived by one sister, Francis Walker, of Fritch.
Family visitation will be Monday, July 9, 2012 from 6:008:00 PM at MintonChatwell.
