Johnnie Sophie Baker, 87 of Panhandle, formerly of McLean, TX, died May 31, 2017, in Panhandle, TX. Graveside services will be 10: 00 am Saturday at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean with Rev. Thacker Haynes, pastor of McLean United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. There will be a family and friends visitation at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, June 2nd.
Johnnie was born December 20, 1929 in Jericho, TX, to John Noah Eades and Jewel (Darnell) Eades. She married Melvin Baker June 23, 1947, in Alanreed, TX. She worked in the cafeteria at McLean schools and was a telephone operator, besides being a housewife. She loved to read and babysit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and two sisters.
Johnnie is survived by her son, Raymond, and wife, Shirley of Panhandle, two grandsons, Melvin Andrew Baker of Henderson, NV, and Nicholas Chad Baker and Nancy of Amarillo, one great-granddaughter, Chelsea Olivia Baker, three nieces, Nancy Skipper and husband, Floyd, Barbara Bernard, and Margaret Hettinga, one nephew, David Daves, and numerous other grand nieces and grand nephews.
