Johnnie Wayne Hood, 74 of Panhandle, Texas passed away on Friday, May 2022. Wayne was born on June 13, 1947 in Amarillo, Texas to Bennie and Reba Hood of Panhandle. He graduated from Panhandle High School in 1965. He was raised on the family farm until 1960 when the family relocated to town. A lifelong resident of Panhandle, he worked in the family business know as Panhandle Irrigation. He eventually took over the business and continued to drill and repair water wells as Wayne Hood Drilling Co. He had a passion for providing water to his customers and his drilling rig was seen as a common fixture on the High Plains.
He married Wanda Taylor Hood in 1971. They lived and raised their family in Panhandle. When he retired, he enjoyed spending his free time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Texas Groundwater Association.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Reba Hood and a son-in-law Benny Ray Hicks, all of Panhandle.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Hood of the home; son, Robert Hood and wife Melissa of Lumberton; daughter Holly Hicks and Jim Oles of Panhandle; grandchildren Haley and Caitlin Hood of Lumberton and Berkley, Brooklynn and Maci Hicks of Panhandle; a sister Carole Crawford and husband Bill of McKinney; nieces Cathy Crawford Hauslien and husband Rick of Austin and Cindy Crawford O’Brien and husband Dan of McKinney with many great-nieces and nephews.
Services are currently pending. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Carson County Square House Museum in Panhandle.
