Jony Thomas

Jony Mae Thomas, 78, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in the Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers her memory may be honored with a gift to the Panhandle Panther Library, P.O. Box 1040, Panhandle, Texas 79068.

Jony was born May 7, 1939 in Higgins, Texas to Verl D. Litchfield and Leila Bernice Glisan Litchfield. She married Arthur Cecil Thomas, Jr. on December 15, 1956 in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Jony retired from Panhandle Independent School District after 26 and a half years of service. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, 55+ Club and the Red Hat Society. Jony enjoyed reading history novels, cooking and attending sports activities. Nothing brought more joy to her life than her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Verl D. Litchfield and Leila Bernice Litchfield; father and mother-in-law, Arthur Cecil Thomas, Sr. and Freda Josephine Williams; son-in-law, James Jay; brother, Donnie Litchfield; and sister, Nona Gray.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Thomas of Panhandle; daughters, Vicky Lynn Jay of Amarillo, Carolyn Jean Beddingfield and husband Bruce of Panhandle; grandchildren, Tessa Renaé Mogelinski and husband Joey, Jason Thomas Caffee, Cody Beddingfield, Sara Beth Maines and husband Casey; great grandchildren, Shadyn Ty Caffee, Cort Cayle Maines, Nora Jean Maines; great great-grandson, Cooper Ray Caffee; brother, Dale Litchfield of Canadian; sisters, Gaydean Bucher of Canadian, Verna Beth Morrow and husband George of Canadian, Carole Appel and husband Harry of Missouri, Norma Brooks of Amarillo; and a host of extended family.
