Joyce G. Johns Hoffman, age 95, of Panhandle, died on Monday, August 5, 2019.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Panhandle, Texas with Father Hrudaya Raju Kondamudi officiating. Arrangements will be handled by Minton Chatwell Funeral Home. Rosary will be 6:00 pm Monday at St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Vance Urbanosky, Marshall Orbanosky, Barret Hoffman, Kevin Briggs, Cody Hoffman, Wesley Herndon, Daniel Braxton, Pierce Urbanosky, Case Urbanosky, Trevor Jenkins, Weston Herndon, Ellis Braxton and Frank Hoffman.
Joyce was born November 4, 1923 in Calaveras, Texas, to parents Bruno and Edith Johns and graduated from Floresville High School in 1940. She graduated from the San Antonio Secretarial School in 1942. Joyce married Herman Hoffman in Saspamco, Texas on September 3, 1942. Herman and Joyce moved to Van Nuys, California following their wedding and remained there during WW II. They returned to Somerset, Texas at the end of the war in 1945 where they farmed until 1965. In September of that same year Herman and Joyce moved to Panhandle, Texas where they resided together until his death in 2010. In 2013 Joyce moved to Southlake, Texas for the remainder of her life. Joyce was the proud mother of three children, secretary of Soil Conservation Services of Carson County Texas and co-director of Hohheim Prairie Farm Mutual Insurance in Somerset, Texas as well as the Texas panhandle area. She spent many hours as a volunteer at the Panhandle Square House Museum. Herman and Joyce were lifelong members of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Panhandle.
Joyce was a kind and welcoming lady who had a way of making everyone feel special. She had a sincere interest in others. Nothing was more important to Joyce and Herman than their family. Joyce was affectionately known to her grandchildren as Joy Joy or Grandma. She taught them tolerance, kindness and to treat others the way they would want to be treated. Joyce was an excellent seamstress and blessed many friends and family members with gifts that she had made. Gardening was one of Herman and Joyce’s favorite retirement joint hobbies. Herman grew all kinds of fruit and vegetables and Joyce enjoyed canning them. Any excess produce was freely given to the community and those in need. Joyce also loved to bowl, work puzzles, and was always ready for a good game of cards with her friends and family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Herman on June 28, 2010; parents, Bruno and Edith Johns; and brothers, Desmond, Edwin and Francis.
She is survived by; daughter, Evelyn and husband A.C. Urbanosky of Southlake, Texas, and sons Richard and wife Debbie Hoffman of Montverde, Florida, and Billy and wife June Hoffman of Panhandle, Texas. Her grandchildren; Kim and husband Kevin Briggs, Vance and wife Shannon Urbanosky, Marshall and wife Brandi Urbanosky, Amber and husband Wesley Herndon, Cody and wife Lexie Hoffman, Sheri Hoffman-Jenkins, Crystal and husband Daniel Braxton, Barret and wife Mindy Hoffman, great grandchildren, Macy and Pierce Urbanosky, Cameryn and Case Urbanosky, Ryleigh and Trevor Jenkins, Addison, Weston and Carley Ann Herndon, Bennet and Ellis Braxton, and Lydia and Frank Hoffman. Brother Lester and wife Carolyn Johns of Floresville.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Sancta Maria Convent or your favorite charity.
