Juanita Ekstrand

April 29, 1923 — January 2, 2014

Juanita Comellia Ekstrand, 90, died January 2 in Amarillo. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Minton Memorial Chapel with Dr. Rick Cope of Sand Springs, Oklahoma officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Juanita was born April 29, 1923 in Wetumka, OK to Sewell and Annie Rogers Thomason. She went to California during World War II to help in the war effort. Juanita has lived in Borger for 48 years before moving to Amarillo 10 years ago. She was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Amarillo and had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 40 years before moving. She was a member of the Desk and Derrick Club, a Toast Mistress and sang in the choir at Calvary. Juanita retired from Frank Phillips College as a secretary.

Survivors include her son Danny Ekstrand and his wife Gretchen of Amarillo and her daughter Kandy Hanna and her husband Bryan of Groom, four grandchildren Dana Ekstrand, Martin Ekstrand, Major Christopher Hanna and Dr. Casey Hanna and 7 Great Grandchildren.
