Karla Jenkins

Karla Sharon Medler Jenkins of Borger, Texas walked into Heaven January 30, 2022.  Karla was born to William E. “Bill” and Edna Mae Bentley Medler on April 26, 1947 in Bunavista, Texas.  Preceding her in death were her parents.  She is survived by her husband of 53 beautiful years Allen Jenkins, caring daughter Melissa Jenkins of Frisco, Texas, supporting son Greg Jenkins and wife Kelly, 6 wonderful grandchildren, Julia Jenkins, Jacqueline Jenkins, Jude Jenkins, Jenny Jenkins, Job Jenkins and Joy Jenkins all of Burnet, Texas.  Also, her two sisters Merry and husband John Hodgkiss, Georgia and husband Dave Lovelace, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Karla grew up in Bunavista and graduated from Borger High School in 1965, Frank Phillips Junior College in 1967, where she met Allen in 1966.  She graduated from West Texas State University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.

Allen and Karla married September 7, 1968 and spent a fantastic 53 years together.  After Karla graduated from WTSU she and Allen moved to Anniston, Alabama where Allen was stationed with the U.S. Third Army at Ft. McClellan. Their daughter Melissa was born January 20, 1973 at Ft. McClellan.  Allen was discharged in April 1973 and they moved back to Canyon, Texas.  Their son, Greg, was born March 2, 1976.  In 1977 they moved to Lefors, Texas and Karla taught second grade during the 1982-83 school year and then taught 3rd grade during the 1983-84 school year at Horace Mann Elementary in Pampa.  In 1984 the family then moved to Borger and Karla taught 2nd grade at Gateway Elementary during the 1984-85 school year.  She then transferred to Crockett Elementary where she taught 1st grade for the remainder of her teaching career.  She loved her job and students.

Karla loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her daughter, son, daughter in law, and six wonderful grand kids.  She will be missed by all family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, February 7, 2022 in the Minton Memorial Chapel with Mr. Richard Kasko officiating.  Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

In lieu of flowers her memory may be honored with a gift to the Fritch Church of Christ or to the American Heart Association.
