Borger

Kathy Jean Garton, 72, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, in the Minton Memorial Chapel. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.  In lieu of flowers her memory may be honored with a gift to Fritch Meals on Wheels, Po Box 366, Fritch, Texas, 79036.  The family will be receiving friends at Greg's house.

Kathy was born March 12, 1950, in Dumas to Bonnie Hogan and Gretta Scott Hogan. She and Donald Ralph Garton began their life together in 1974.  Kathy and Don enjoyed traveling.  After he passed away, Kathy stayed closer to home but made sure to make her social rounds. Kathy retired from Phillips after 32 years of service in various roles.  She was known for speaking her mind.  Kathy enjoyed trap shooting, gambling, playing cards and had an extensive music collection.  She had a big heart and helped many people get back on their feet to get a new start on life.  If you were lucky enough to be among her group of people, then you definitely knew what a “momelet” was.  Kathy was the only person who could spend $100 at Allsup’s and never buy a drop of gas.  Nothing brought more joy to her life than her grandkids, in fact as the grandkids were growing up Friday nights were known as Memaw nights.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bonnie and Gretta Hogan; husband, Donald Garton; sons, Nick and David Garton; and brothers, Jerry and Bill Hogan.

Survivors include her sons, Brian Garton and wife Paula of Fritch, Greg Garton and wife Jennifer of Borger; grandchildren, Jerad Stewart, Mackenzie Hanifin and husband Jacob, Alyssa Witt and husband Camren, Kaylor Garton, Abby Garton, Lance Tollison and wife Kenzie, Hunter Tollison, Saige Davis; great grandchildren, Cohen, Wyatt, Brynleigh; brother, Larry Hogan; sister, Vera Brock and husband Wesley; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family, including those friends that were more like family that called her Mom and Memaw.
