Kathy Sheets

April 3, 1950 — November 28, 2018

Kathryn Ann Niles, 68, went to be with her Jesus on Wednesday morning, November 28, 2018.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Grace Church, Borger, TX with Pastor Anthony Curran, pastor LifeHouse Church Waterford Ireland, officiating. Arrangements are by Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Kathryn Ann Niles Sheets was born on April 3, 1950 to Kenneth Boswell Niles and Betty Jo Tilton Niles in Enid, Oklahoma.

When she was a little girl, the family moved to Borger where she lived in their family home until her marriage to William Gary Sheets on August 9, 1969.

As a young married couple, they lived in a tiny apartment and she attended Frank Phillips College where she was a cheerleader and member of the tennis team.

In September of 1970, she and Gary moved to Charlotte, South Carolina. During their time in South Carolina, Kathy worked as a bank proof, in a dress shop, and finally at the office in a knitting mill just days before their first son William Brady Sheets was born on January 3, 1976 at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in Kannapolis, NC. Although their time there was relatively short, they made many lifelong friendships.

As soon as they started a family, Kathy wanted to be close to family, so they moved back to Borger, TX in September of 1976 where she focused on raising a family. They welcomed their first daughter, Briana Dawn Sheets Curran on December 13, 1979 at Golden Plains Community Hospital in Borger, TX. Their youngest daughter Courtney Ann Sheets Smith was born on October 26, 1987 in Borger, TX at Golden Plains Community Hospital.

As a young mother, Kathy was a member of the Potpourri Women's Club of Borger, a Mary Kay consultant which provided lasting memories of playing with makeup for all the girls in the family, and a longtime member at Wesley Methodist where she was baptized, actively served in VBS, taught Sunday School, and participated in United Methodist Women.

Her sweet disposition, positive attitude, and willingness to help endeared her to many church families, community groups, students, and children over the years. She is loved and remembered fondly by many friends and family for her various roles of involvement within Wesley United Methodist, Cornerstone Church of Borger, Cornerstone Church of Dumas, Cornerstone Church of Wheeler, Cornerstone Church of Amarillo, and Grace Church of Borger.

With the love, help, and support of her family, in 1989, Kathy returned to finish her formal education and graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX. Kathy received three job offers; one from Australia, Gruver ISD and Spring Creek ISD.

She accepted the job offer from Spring Creek ISD and began her career as a 2nd Grade Teacher. Over her career there she covered many positions as: Special Education Inclusion teacher, Art teacher, the coordinator for district testing, special education, English language learners, and the migrant program. She retired from Spring Creek ISD in May 2016 to become a full time Grandma "Lala" to her youngest grandson, Bodi Smith.

She was preceded in death by her brother Paul Niles, her parents, Betty Jo Tilton Niles, and Kenneth Boswell Niles.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, William Gary Sheets, her son William Brady Sheets and wife Shawna of Borger, TX, daughter Briana Curran and husband Anthony of Waterford, Ireland, daughter Courtney Smith and husband Bo of Borger, TX, and five grandchildren: William Colby Sheets, Haley Jade Sheets, Samuel Anthony Curran, Zoe Ann Curran, and Bodi Dean Smith.

She is cherished in the community, amongst friends, and within family as a loyal friend, confidant, collaborator, teacher, role model, civic and church leader, daughter, big sister, Aunt Kathy, Grandma, Lala, Sweetheart, and Mom.
