Kenneth Lynn Cox , 72, of Panhandle died Thursday, April 25, 2013. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the United Methodist Church of Panhandle with the Rev. Buddy Payne and the Rev. Dr. Jerry Lane officiating. Arrangements are by Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Kenneth was born August 9, 1940 in Seiling, OK. He was raised in Dewey County on the Sam Cox farm and in the towns of Seiling and Taloga and graduated high school in Seiling, OK in 1958. On August 22, 1958, Kenneth married Alice J. Cox in Seiling, OK with her father, J.D. Price, Jr., officiating. He graduated at Panhandle A M University in Goodwell, OK in August of 1962.
Kenneth began his career in education at Stratford ISD teaching and coaching from 1962 to 1968. He was Elementary Principal and sixth grade teacher in Arnett, OK from 1968 to 1976 after completing a Masters Degree in Education Administration at West Texas State University in Canyon, TX in 1968. Kenneth managed the Stratford swimming pool and he directed the Summer Youth Program in Arnett.
Kenneth was Elementary Principal in Skellytown, TX with White Deer ISD from 1976 to 1991 and High School Principal in White Deer from 1991 to 1995 when he retired with 33 years experience in education. While in Skellytown, he was President of Lions Club several different years.
He and his wife Alice lived at Lake Tanglewood south of Amarillo from August 1991 to September 2001 then moved to Panhandle, TX. Kenneth was a member of the Square House Museum board and served as president from 2008 to 2010. He was a member of FiftyFive Plus and served on the board.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Alice Cox sons, Randy Cox and wife Janeth of Amarillo and Keith Cox and wife Tamra of Borger daughters, Kendra Cox of Amarillo, Barbra Craig and husband Shawn of White Deer two brothers, Terry Cox and wife Jan of White Deer and Jim Cox of Albuquerque, seven grandchildren: Kyle, Kasey, Ashley and Aubrey Cox, Shea, Trevor and Elaine Craig five great grandchildren, Allison, Aiden, Gaven, Emma, Rylien nieces, Ginger Cox and Tara Young nephews, Jeff and Jerod Cox
