Lanny Sparks Garner, 60, died Monday, January 19, 2009 in Amarillo.BRBRGraveside services will be held at the Panhandle Cemetery, Friday, January 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church in Panhandle Friday at 2:00 p.m. Services are under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.BRBRLanny was born January 4, 1949, in Ft. Worth, Texas to Maurice and Nancy Garner. He was a 1967 graduate of Panhandle High School, where he was senior class favorite, band member of recipient of the football Fighting Heart award. He earned a degree in Banking and Finance from the University of North Texas in 1971. He worked for Amarillo National Bank before beginning a career in athletic construction for Vibra-Whirl in 1973. He earned recognition as a certified track builder in 1994, and became president of the company in 1991. He retired in 2004. He became active in mission work, assisting in construction projects in Amarillo at Hope Welcome Center and Hollywood Road Community Church and First Baptist Church in Cuba, NM. He enjoyed working with Love-in-Action, a once a month meal and food assistance program at FBC in Panhandle where he was a deacon and choir member.BRBRLanny was a Gideon and past president of the Panhandle Rotary. He was a recipient of a 2001 Golden Nail award and served on the board of directors for the Carson County Square House Museum. He retired from the board of directors of the State national Bank in Groom in 2007.BRBRDespite Lanny's many accomplishments, he will be most remembered as an honorable businessman, a loving husband an father, a caring son, a cherished brother, a fun uncle, a kind papa, and a gentleman who loved the Lord.BRBRLanny married Ronda Roberts in Waco on July 14, 1973. He was preceded in death by his father. BRBRSurvivors include his wife, Ronda, a son Grant and his wife, Michelle, a granddaughter Alexis, his mother Nancy Garner, two sisters, Carolyn Graham of Amarillo, Nancy Ruth Williams and husband Windy of Seminole, six nephews and three nieces.BRBRIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to FBC, PO Box 189, Panhandle, 79068; FBC, PO Box 391, Cuba, NM 87013; Carson County Square House Museum, PO Box 276, Panhandle 79068; or Gideon's International.BR
