LaVerne Smith, 85, died Tuesday, March 18th, 2008 in Austin, Texas.BRBRGraveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in The Garden of Love at Westlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. There will be a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church in Acton, Texas at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.BRBRMrs. Smith was born on March 1, 1922. LaVerne and her husband Gilbert operated a construction business in Borger from 1968 until his death in 1996. She did the bookkeeping for the business. She and Gilbert were active members of the Lake Meredith Yacht Club for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernie Bea Smith, and sister - Wanza Shortt.BRBRShe is survived by her son - Richard Smith and wife, Sherry of Austin, two grandchildren - Dr. David Smith and wife, Jill of Euless, Tx., Rev. Leslie Tomlinson and husband Rev. Kit Tomlinson of San Antonio and great-granddaughter - True Tomlinson of San Antonio and her niece, Rev. Lana Bradley and husband, Mike of Acton, Tx.
