Lee Williams

Lee D. Williams, 95, of Borger died peacefully on Monday October 23, 2017, in Amarillo. Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am Friday, October 27, 2017, at Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger, Texas. Arrangements are by Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Lee was born November 9, 1921, in Altus, OK, to James Bennett and Mary (Kirby) Williams. He served in the US Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant during WWII from 1940 - 1945. He was stationed in the USA, Puerto Rico and the South Pacific Theatre. He worked as an airplane and engine mechanic and was ultimately a crew chief on all types of aircraft. He earned a good Conduct Ribbon, American Defense Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon and a Pacific Theatre Ribbon. Lee suffered and overcame a non-combat head injury while in Saipan. After being honorably discharged from the military, Lee attended Oklahoma University on the GI Bill, and he obtained his Pharmacy degree in 1950. Upon graduation, he established his longtime home in Borger, where he served actively as a licensed pharmacist for 33 years before retiring in 1985; however, he maintained his Pharmacy license for several years following. Prior to retirement he owned Lee's Pharmacy for 10 years. He married Elizabeth Ann Wiginton on October 30, 1980. Together they owned the Merle Norman shop in Borger for almost 30 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion, and VFW. Lee was also a Master Mason in good standing for over 40 years.

Lee is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Kirby Frasier, and wife, Wilma Faye Tabb Williams.

Lee is survived by his wife Elizabeth; daughters Mary Anne Jackson of Austin, TX, and Pam Nicholas of Borger; sons Michael Bowden and wife Edith of Ulysses, KS; and Steve Bowden of Temple, TX. Grandchildren Lee Ann Nutt and husband Jim, Ann Harrington, Candice Hyde and husband Mark, Alexandra Yndo and husband Christopher, Christine McLaughlin and husband Tripp, and Samantha Sloan and husband Travis. Great grandchildren are Michael Nutt, Rachel Nutt, Rowan Niemeyer, Will Hyde, Cooper Hyde, Francesca Yndo, T. J. Sloan, Virginia Leigh McLaughlin, Augustus Yndo, Charlotte Hyde, Rosie McLaughlin, Matthew Sloan, and one McLaughlin on the way.
