Leo Pentney L. P. Gaines, 88 of Fritch died Sunday October 6th in Fritch.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 10th, at Minton Memorial Chapel with Jake Minton officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 pm Friday, October 11th, at Wynnewood View Cemetery, Wynnewood, Oklahoma with Rev. Joe Ainsworth officiating. Burial is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
L. P. was born March 14, 1925, in Fitzhough, Oklahoma to Harvey Leo and Mamie Eva Webb Gaines. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Ester Edwards February 10, 1944, in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He was saved in 1946 at a prayer meeting at their home. He was a contractor in construction, building 12 churches with his son in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. He retired at the age of 79. He loved his work, and taking children camping around the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Edward Leo Gaines and a sister Willa Mae Gaines.
He is survived by Ester Edward Gaines, his wife of 69 years and 8 Months of the home son, David Gaines of Fritch daughters, Joyce Smith and husband Walter of Dover, Arkansas, Frances Schleg and husband Tom of Walkerton, Indiana, Joan Gaines of Amarillo, Phillas Rich of Amarillo, Ree Hamilton and husband Larry of Fritch sisterinlaw, Vina Cox of Arkansas Stepbrothers, Dick Shaw of Charleston, SC and Bob Shaw of Russellville, Arkansas 12 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to your favorite charity in the name of Leo or L. P. Gaines.
