Leon Wesley DeWeese, 69, longtime resident of Borger died, Thursday, September 6, 2012 at his home in Borger.

Leon was born May 3, 1943 in San Francisco, California to Othel Brown and Seth Scrip DeWeese. His father had always worked on many ranches in Texas, New Mexico, and Montana, and his family also worked at the navel yards building ships during WW II. Leon spent his early years on these various ranches attending multiple schools until the family returned to Borger where he entered high school and graduated in 1962. During high school Leon was a Borger Bulldog through and through. He played football and told many people if he could live his life over, it would be to go back through his years at Borger High School. Leon began his long career with the City of Borger at the young age of 16 as life guard and summer help in the parks department. After that he worked for Groendyke Trucking Company for a short time. Later he became a full time employee of the City as Health Inspector under the encouragement and tutoring of Mr. Carl Lewis of the City of Borger. Leons long career with the City of Borger spanned over 50 years of service. He filled many positions including Park and Recreations Department Head, City Municipal Judge. These were the positions he held until his retirement. Leon loved the City of Borger. When a vacancy became open on the City Council, he answered the call to fill the unexpired term and ran unopposed for a second term until his health caused him to step down and not run for the third term.

Leon loved to travel, especially to Florida, Dallas, and Las Vegas. He was a member of the Borger Elks Lodge 1581, and always played golf on Wednesday nights.
