Leona Ruth Smith, 87, of Borger, died Thursday, June 19, 2008 in Amarillo,Texas.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Pampa under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Leona was born on April 13, 1921 in Floydada, Texas. She bragged about working at J.C. Penney for 25 years as a sales clerk. She had been a resident of Borger since 1947 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She devoted her time to being a mom, grandma and taking care of many of her relatives.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband Raymond M. Smith, an only son - Dennis James Franklin in 1984 and a brother - James Dunavant.
Leona is survived by 3 granddaughters - Melanie Franklin of Amarillo, Denise Dockery and husband Greg of Austin and Crystal Swift of Connecticut; 1 grandson - Sean Coleman also of Connecticut and 5 great grandchildren - Megan and Landon Dockery; Christina Martin; Jaelah and Brady Franklin and many friends at the Plaza Restaurant.
The family would like to thank the Ware Living Center and BSA Hospice for the love, care and support they offered.
Casket bearers will be Jerry Smith, Sam Smith, Ishmael Smiley Hernandez, Greg Dockery, Landon Dockery and Weldon Richardson.
Honorary Casket bearers will be Brady Franklin and George Bethel.
