Leota Frances Simpson Ward Overstreet McDonald, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Riverview Baptist Church with Pastors Mike Kelley and Scott Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Friday, July 23, 2021 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers her memory may be honored with a gift to Riverview Baptist Church, where she has been a member since 1966.
Leota was born May 13, 1941 in Kemp, Oklahoma to Floyd Martin Simpson and Vivian Frances Venable Simpson. She started kindergarten in Durant, Oklahoma, moving to Borger after school was out for the year. When she arrived at Borger, she tested out to begin the second grade upon moving to town. She attended second, third, and fourth grades in Borger and the fifth and sixth grades in Freeburg, Illinois. Leota returned to Borger for grades seven and eight, before moving to Belleville, Illinois for freshman year and half of sophomore year. She finished out her sophomore year, junior and senior years at Borger graduating on May 28, 1959. Leota took a civil service examination in May of 1959 and made the highest score of the people taking the test that day. She then went to work for the Air Force the end of June 1959.
She married Monte Dee Ward at the age of 18, he preceded her in death on January 7, 1973. Leota then married Thomas Overstreet, Jr., he preceded her in death on July 6, 1997. She married Jackie Leon McDonald on May 19, 2001.
Leota started her career as a legal secretary and bookkeeper at Gassaway & Allen from 1960 until 1975, Travelers Oil Company from 1979-1994, Gassaway Law Firm from 1997-1998, and Terry M. Gassaway and Johnny Rusten from 1998-2004.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Vivian Simpson; husbands, Monte Ward and Tom Overstreet; and sisters, Nadine Gunkel and Vera Kay Dobbs.
Survivors include her husband, Leon McDonald; sons, Monte Overstreet, Tommie Overstreet and wife Lori, Brian Overstreet and wife Jamie, Rick McDonald and wife Terri, Steve McDonald and wife Marcy; daughters, Micki Fields, Karen York and husband Steve; grandchildren, Joshua Fields, Kaleb Fields and fiancé Haley Richmond, Jayden Fields; great grandchildren, Piper, Eli; numerous extended grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Ann Wolfe and husband Kenneth, Linda Anderson, Barbara Schlott and husband Jim, Peggy Smith; and a host of extended family.
