Linda Ann Andersen, 71, formerly of Borger, died Friday May 31, 2012 at her home in Bellaire, Texas.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Minton Memorial Chapel with Joe Galindo of Dallas officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park in the garden of Prayer under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Linda was born September 8, 1940 in Borger. She graduated from West Texas State University in 1963 and obtained a Masters of Science with Reading Specialist Certification from East Tennessee State University in 1973.

She moved to the Houston area in 1965and taught school for the Pasadena Independent School District for 40 years. Linda organized the HOST program for A.B. Freeman Elementary School and in 1995, she was awarded the HOSTS Betty Scharff National Exemplary Teacher Award. She was a member, officer, and leader of the Delta Kappa GammaTeachers Society. A scholarship in her honor was established by the Delta Kappa Gamma. Ms. Andersen was the consummate firstgrade teacher and was particularly skilled at teaching reading. She led many students down the roadto literacy and lifelong success. Linda stated, Education is important and helping others is paramount in my beliefs.

Linda had a strong faith and trusted Jesus Christ for her salvation in her early adult years. She served so many with her thoughtful, generous spirit and looked for ways she could encourage others with her words, her acts of service, and her beautiful handmade cards and gifts. She was hardworking and dedicated to her profession and to her family and friends. She was deeply loved and will always be remembered for her serving heart and loving spirit.

Survivors include four sisters: Frieda Pickett and husband Russell of Butler, Tennessee, Waynel Sexton and husband Joe of Houston, Kim Galindo and husband Joe of Dallas, Patty Duduit and husband Paul of Dallas sisterinlaw, Dana Walsh of San Antonio brother, Dick Weddington and wife Sandy of Amarillo three nieces: Allison Atherton, Stacy and Kristi Young, all of Austin two nephews: Zach and Bart Galindo, both of Dallas.

Linda is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret M. Weddington, her father, William Ashton Gunnells, her stepfather, Wayne Lanham, and her beloved stepbrother William Walsh, Jr.

We extend special thanks to all of Lindas doctors and care givers at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas including Dr. Frank Fossella, Susan Secrest, Dr. Egidio Del Fabbro and Dr. Akhila Reddy. Deep appreciation goes to Bushra Farooq who provided care and comfort to Linda on a daily basis.

Linda was a devoted member of Delta Kappa Gamma and we ask that contributions be made to ones favorite charity or to the Alpha State Texas Educational Foundation ASTEF. The purpose of ASTEF is to provide funding for activities that support professional and personal growth of women educators in Texas and promote educational excellence for Texas students.
