Linda Meeks Orr, 78 of Panhandle, went home to our Heavenly Father Sunday, May 30th in San Antonio. Graveside services will be 10:00 am, Monday, June 7, at the Panhandle Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am, at the First Baptist Church in Panhandle. There will be a visitation at First Baptist Church Parlor on Friday, June 4 and Saturday June 5 from 8 am to 5 pm.
Linda was born on November 29, 1942 in Pearsall Texas and spent her childhood in Devine Tx graduating from Devine High School. Linda married Richard Orr on August 15, 1964. After short stops in Battle Creek Michigan and Colorado Springs Colorado the couple moved to Panhandle in 1966 where she resided for the remainder of her life. She held many positions during her working career including Secretary for the County Attorney, Panhandle City Judge, Store manager for Dobson Cellular and later Sprint, Medical Transcriptionist, working in a green house and as a bookkeeper. Throughout her life Linda sought ways to serve others. For many years she taught Sunday School, served as an adult sponsor on youth mission and ski trips and many other rolls at First Baptist Church. She loved people and never met a stranger.
Never one to sit still, she enjoyed cooking, working with her flowers and traveling and visits with neighbors on the front porch. Most of all she loved her family and was never happier than when hustling around the kitchen and hosting large family gathering or spoiling her grandchildren and great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her father Truman Meeks and her mother Ruth Ernest.
She is survived by her loving husband Richard, of 56 years. Her brothers Pat Meeks and partner Carlos Millian of Houston and Mike Meeks and wife Elsa of Houston. Two sons, Steven Orr and wife Regina of Floydada and Chris Orr and wife Sunny of Stephenville. She is also survived by five grandchildren Taylor, Jared, Rosser, Allison, and Molly and one great grandson Levi.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Linda’s name to The Square House Museum in Panhandle or First Baptist Church in Panhandle.
