BRLEOTA FLORENCE COXBRBRLoeta Florence Heitmann Cox, 85, formerly of Panhandle, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in Amarillo, Texas.BRBRServices will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church in Panhandle with Pastor Joe Zimmerman, officiating. Interment will be in Borger at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.BRBRLeota Cox was born June 16, 1923, in Lenora, Kansas, to George August and Inez Heitmann. Leota married Owen Lee Cox on May 23, 1941 in Topeka, Kansas. They moved to Borger, Texas, in 1945 and lived there until 1962. Then the family moved to an oil lease in 1962, north of Stinnett, until retirement in 1982. Leota resided in Fritch, Texas from 1982 until moving to Panhandle in 2001.BR

Mrs. Cox was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Panhandle. Her family was her passion. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grand children so very much. She shared a wealth of information with her family that will be passed for generations.BR BRLeota was a kind and devoted wife, mother and friend. She had a smile for everyone she met. She made an impact on everyone, one that will be deeply missed.BRBRLeota devoted her life to her family and her church. She was a Sunday School teacher at Fellowship Baptist Church in Borger. After raising her family, she worked as a Secretary for an oil field service until 1981. She also loved her Sunday School Class in Panhandle, the First Baptist Senior Adults, and Fifty-Five Plus Group. She really enjoyed playing Bridge and all the friends she had made in those capacities. BRBRLeota had resided at the Ware Living Center, in Amarillo, since 2007. She had been treated with tender loving care and had an extra ordinary friendship with the residents as well as her devoted caretakers.BRBRLeota was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, a sister Marjorie Payne, a sister-in-law Marjorie Cox Askew, and a much loved brother-in-law Lindon Butch Shepherd.BRBRSurvivors include her daughter, Dianna Carole McGill and husband Roland of Panhandle, two sons, Phillip Owen Cox of Fritch and Tracy Lee Cox of Knoxvill, Tennessee. Seven grandchildren, Trevor McGill and wife Kim, Regina McWhorter and husband Dunnigan of Panhandle, Greg Cox and wife Valerie of Nashville, TN, Tera Lamberth and husband Shawn of Knowville, TN, Jason Cox and wife Shelly of Pagosa Springs, CO., Jeff Cox of Fritch,TX and PVT. E2 Grant Cox serving in the US ARMY at Fort Huachuca, AZ. She also has eight Great Grandchildren who had loving called her GG.BRBRThe family suggest memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 189, Panhandle, Texas or to BSA Hospice, Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.
