Lorena Tharp

Lorena Mae Dozier Tharp, aged 97, died Sunday, March 14, 2010 , at the Crowell Nursing Home after living in Quanah for several years.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 19th, at the First Christian Church in Panhandle with Rev. Larry Perkins officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening and from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. Friday morning at the Minton Chatwell Funeral Home, Panhandle. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Panhandle Cemetery . Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

Mrs. Tharp was born December 26, 1912, on a farm near Duffau, Erath County, Texas, the eldest of 14 children seven girls and seven boys, including two sets of twins born to Mary Edna Martin and William Walter W.W. Dozier.

In about 1919, the family moved by covered wagon to Dickens County where her father first worked on the Davidson Ranch near Dumont , until he purchased his own farm nearby in 1923.

In 1947 Lorena married W. D. Tharp. Most of their married life was spent near Bloomfield , New Mexico , where W. D. worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company. One son survives: Kenneth Don Tharp and his wife Patty. Sadly, daughter Barbara died February 13, 1995 , of breast cancer at age 47 in Panhandle, where Lorena was also a resident for many years.

The joy of a long life is seeing ones children having children of their own and then grandchildren having children Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Sherri Oseletto and her husband Ronnie and Jason Webb and his wife Valarie, of Quanah, Texas Stacy Howes and her husband Rusty, and Shayla Webb of Panhandle Andrew Tharp, Washington, D.C. Amy Tharp, Seattle, Washington and Laura Tharp, Denver, Colorado and six great grandsons: Zak and Zane Oseletto Ryan and Jared Howes and Brendan Webb and Jaxson Webb. Also surviving are four brothers: Lafayette Dozier, Stinnett , Texas Edgar Dozier, Antlers, Oklahoma Lewis Dozier, Ore City , Texas Virgil Dozier, Paducah , Texas and one sister, Geneva Sisco, Modesto , California , along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Tharp was a devoted mother. Her family and her home were her loving focus. She lived through five wars and saw amazing changes from the horse and buggy days to indoor plumbing, motor cars, airplanes, and outer space to mention just a few inventions that occurred during her lifetime. She will be deeply missed.
