Gertrude Lorene Hall Carter, 83, of Panhandle, Texas entered eternal life September 27, 2008.
Celebration of life services will be at 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, in the First Baptist Church, Panhandle, with the Reverend Joe Zimmerman, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow in Memory Gardens, Pampa.
Mrs. Carter was born on August 26, 1925, in Chavez County, between Dexter and Hagerman, New Mexico, to Lorene Gertrude Miles Hall and William Henry Hall. She married Gearld Lovera Carter, Sr. on October 4, 1943, in Phillips, Texas. Mrs. Carter graduated from Phillips High School in 1943 and was chosen all school queen.
Lorene was a creative teacher, artist, seamstress, and homemaker. She owned and taught at Playmate Pre-School, a private kindergarten in Amarillo. Mrs. Carter was a very active member in the First Baptist Church of Borger, Phillips, Pampa, and Amarillo; she also served in Avondale, Bell Street, and Paramount Baptist Churches in Amarillo. She was a Sunday school teacher, training union leader, and pre-school department co-ordinator; she also lead in vacation bible school, mission friends, WMU, and various Bible studies; she participated in revivals and mission trips until prevented by failing health. She is a member of Panhandle First Baptist Church. Her family remembers her as a faithful wife of 65 years and as a devoted, supportive, encouraging daughter, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Clarence Leslie Hall; and her beloved son, Gearld Lovera Carter, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Gearld Lovera Carter, Sr., of Panhandle; her daughter, Jerilyn Carter Laramore and husband Gary Laramore, Sr. of Panhandle; her daughter-in-law, Rene Baker Carter Brown and husband Davis Brown of Adrian; one grandson, Gary Laramore, Jr. and wife Stacie of Texline; two granddaughters, Jessica Rene Carter Cowan and husband Christopher Cowan of Coppell; and Bethany DAnn Carter Fields and husband Russell Fields of Amarillo; and eight great grandchildren: Carter Blake Laramore, Makenzie Reagan Laramore, and Andrew Mason Laramore of Texline; Lucy Helena Cowan and William Nathaniel Cowan of Coppell; Colin Alexander Fields, Benjamin Cyrus Fields, and Gillian Rene Fields of Amarillo. Besides many other beloved family members and extended family, she leaves behind a host of dear friends, students, and caregivers, who loved her for her generous nature and remarkable interest in them personally. Her joyful Christian wisdom and influence will be felt for generations.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p. m, Monday, September 29 at Minton Chatwell Funeral Home in Panhandle.
The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church in Panhandle, St. Anns Nursing Home in Panhandle, or Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude.
