L. D. Bugs Burney, 86, died July 7, 2013 in Amarillo. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Eternal Light Pentecostal Church with Pastor Willie Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Bugs was born March 31, 1927 in Van Alstyne, Texas to Dee and Era Elvina Ticer Burney. Raised during the depression he left school in the Third Grade to help provide for his family. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1943 until 1948. L. D. married Alma May Ireland July 22, 1949 in Lodi, California. Bugs went to work for Orkin in 1955 and then started his own business. He was the founder of Bugs Burney Pest Control from 1962 to 1981 and later Burney Spraying Service.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Borger Post 1789, Gideons International and he was the Chaplin of the Marine League in Stinnett. Bugs was a Deacon at Eternal Light Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons Bryan Wayne Burney and David Curtis Boles.
L. D. is survived by his wife of 64 years Alma, three sons Loye Burney, Jr. and wife Susan of Borger, Bruce Burney and wife Norma of Amarillo and Dennis Burney and wife Chris of Houston, three daughters Mary Drinnen and husband Claude of Amarillo, Loreta Woods and husband Tommie of Windham, Ohio and Marlene Boles of Borger, two brothers Wayne Roberts of Spearman and Ray Roberts of Amarillo, four sisters Jean Clark, Bert Rickman, Jody Dysart and Sue Price all of Amarillo, 16 Grandchildren and 26 GreatGrandchildren.
Casket Bearers will be Ronnie Boles, Scooter Boles, Steven Burney, Kevin Burney, Brandon Burney and Robby Newberry.
