Luther Eugene (Buster) Newberry, age 77 of Fritch, Texas passed from this Earthly life on September 21, 2024. Buster was born August 6, 1947, in Borger, Texas to Raymond S. Newberry and Ada L. Stringer.
Buster graduated from Sanford-Fritch High School in 1965. He went on to earn an Associate degree from Frank Phillips College in Business Management. He also joined the Texas National Guard and graduated from Officer Candidate School. He earned the rank of Captain.
Buster joined the United States Marine Corp in 1966, where he served in the Vietnam War. After serving, he was employed by J.M. Huber Corporation for 30 years as a Co-gen supervisor. He was an active member of Chapter 404 V.V.A. He served as President of the Texas State Council of Vietnam Veterans for over 15 years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., the V.V.A., and the Marine Corp. League.
Buster married the love of his life, Percilla Irene Nicholas on December 24, 1966. He is survived by his wife, Percilla; his son, Paul Newberry and wife Trisha Newberry of Amarillo, Texas; his daughter, Kimberly Holjes and husband Daniel Holjes of Fritch, Texas. He is also survived by four wonderful grandchildren, Tristan McDaniel, Davin Holjes, Daxton Holjes, and Halle Holjes who were his pride and joy. He is survived by his brother, Robert (Bob) Newberry of Perryton, Texas; his sister, Joy Rawle of Amarillo, Texas; and his sister, Salley Hammontree of Woodward, Oklahoma. He is also survived by many cousins, nephews, and nieces (favorite being Sharon Prock!!!!!!). He was preceded in death by both parents.
Buster’s hobbies included serving the V.V.A. in any way possible, supporting his children and grandchildren unconditionally, and adopting all of the pets that his dear wife desired.
Buster will lay in state on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Minton Chatwell Funeral Home in Fritch, Texas from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 27, at Westlawn Memorial Park in Borger, Texas at 2:00pm with Myron Peterson and Ron Hollar officiating. Memorials are asked to be sent to the amazing Fritch Volunteer Fire Department.
