Margaret Papay

Margaret Marge Lucille Papay,87, of Morse died Sunday May 6,2012 in
Amarillo. Services will be held 11:00 AM THURSDAY, May 10th at the First Baptist
Church in Morse, where she was a member, with Pastor Gary Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Lieb Cementary by Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Marge was born August 22, 1924 on a farm 9 miles southeast of Elkhart KS in Texas County OK to Dewey and Gladys Hensley. Living on the farm until the family moved into Elkhart in 1929. She graduated from Elkhart High School in May, 1942.
She married Ed Papay at the First Baptist Church in Elkhart on December 29, 1946.
She was employed in a variety of jobs, babysitting, and driving trucks during harvest for her Dad. Her first public job was at Owens Variety store, earning a wage of 10 cents an hour. She worked as secretary, cashier, and waitress at two cafes. During World Wat II she was a clerk at the Office of Price Administration OPA rationing office. After hours from there and weekends she worked as a waitress. After marriage, she worked at the drug store enjoying working behind the soda fountain.
The couple lived in Texhoma OK in late 1947 until the middle of 1948, where she was a checker at the Ideal Food Store. They moved back to Elkhart and in 1951 they moved to a farm near Hitchland TX.
As she was growing up, she spent a lot of time on her grandparents Hensley farm. Learning how to milk cows and gardening which she enjoyed until quitting in her 80s due to health reasons.
She enjoyed farm life. She raised big gardens, had chickens, pigs, and several milk cows. The milk was separated and she delivered cream and eggs on Tuedays and Fridays to the residents at New Hope Panhandle Eastern Gas Co. and residents of Hitchland. The blizzard of March 1957 killed several cows, calves, and the kids donkey. In November of 1958, they moved near Morse, TX, living on different farms, where she drove tractors and grain trucks during harvest.
The family moved into Morse in 1969. She had managed the Morse Grocery Store for a year. Ed and Marge bought the store and in 1977 closed it. All the Morse children were loved by her, many called her their Grandma. She enjoyed attending school activities and sporting events of her children and grandchildren.
In the 1980s Papay Custom Farming was formed by her husband and three sons. She would load up some of the grandkids and go after parts in the surrounding towns. She kept everyone on the right track, helping out where and when she was needed.
Her life was full of many blessings. One special blessing was being able to care

for several years for her oldest son, Eddie, whom God took home in 2002 and then caring for her husband whom God took home in 2003.
In October, 1996, she was recognized for over 25 yrs. of volunteer service with the Government of the United States of America with the National Weather Service in Amarillo, TX.
She had a caring, loving heart for everyone, was optimistic, and had a positive attitude. Her family was deeply loved by her. Life was good. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, cooking, and family get togethers. She kept in touch with relatives and friends by sending greeting cards and phone calls. She also enjoyed all of her pictures especially of her family. She was called by family, Mama, Mom, Mommy, Speedy and Grandma Marge. She will be greatly missed.
In 2008, she was diagnosed with kidney failure. She was able to live a few more years because of the wonderful care of the staff at Davita formerly AmarilloKidney Specialists. A very special thanks to Dr. Luzma Houseal and our nurse, Diana Terry that has been with us from the start.
And another very special thanks to the loving staff at Odyssey Hospice in Amarillo for their care in her final days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Eddie in March 2002, her husband Ed, of 56 years, in July 2003, and her brother Elmer Hensley in November 2007.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Papay and friend Sharon Marcum of Amarillo, TX and Tony Papay of Morse. A daughter Milana Reiswig husband Travis of Morse. A sister Ruby Fernimen and husband Chris of Bonne Terre, MO and a sisterinlaw Adeline Hensley of Loveland CO.
Ten grandchildren and their spouses. Cassondra Paul Lauderdale of Weatherford, TX, Valorie James Kohoutek of Mission, KS, Leslie Craig Barnhart of Carrolton, TX, Roxanne Jay Davis of Dumas TX, Mark Papay of Tuscon AZ, John Jessica Papay of Amarillo, TX, Shelby Rosio Reiswig, of Stinnett, TX, Katherine Frank Ayala of Levelland, TX, Mikala Reiswig of Scottsdale, AZ, and Elizabeth and Matt Wade of Amarillo.
Twentytwo great grandchildren. Sarah, Bryan, and Megan Lauderdale, Zoe, Christian, Zachary, and Oliver Kohoutek, Trenton Barnhart, Haydn Sequin Davis, Hunter Papay, Luke and Rachel Papay, Xavier, Rocky and Dixie Reiswig, Matthew Papay, Andrew, Jacob, and Israel Ayala, Jace Luginbyhl, and Lily Wade. Many nieces, nephews, and friends.
