Marjorie Ewing

Marjorie Lois Ewing, 87, passed away Friday, February 20, 2015.

Funeral service 11 am Monday, February 23, 2015 in the First Baptist Church of Panhandle. Burial will follow in the Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. In lieu of flowers her memory may be honored with a gift to First Baptist Church in Panhandle, Box 189, Panhandle TX 79068 or the Library Fund at The Continental, 1300 S. Jackson, Amarillo, TX 79101.

Marjorie was born July 22, 1927 in the Tony Ridge Community of Carson County, Texas the only child of Charles E. and B. Louis (Wallace) Ewing. She attended Tony Ridge and Panhandle Schools where she graduated in 1944, earning her bachelors' degree in 1948 from Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, master's degree in 1957 from West Texas A&M University and post graduate work in Administration from West Texas A&M University. Marjorie taught 4th grade at Panhandle Elementary School for 40 years, retiring in 1988.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Panhandle since 1944, where she served as church historian and an office volunteer for many years. Marjorie was a leader and teacher for forty years with the children and youth activities, various committees, especially decorating for VBS, summer mission trips, drama.

Marjorie was a member of Love in Action, National, State, Local Study Clubs, Dianthus, B&PW, Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Altrurian Club and a Girl Scout leader for 15 years. She moved from Panhandle in 2008 to live at The Continental in Amarillo where she volunteered in the library.

She received the Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America award in 1973, was named in the Who's Who in Texas Education, and TRJA certificate of Recognition for Volunteerism.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include several cousins, Lynn Sample and husband, Jerry of Fredricksburg, Carl French and wife, Colleen, of Dalhart, Faye French of Texarkana, Billie Ruth French of Dalhart, Nira and Roy Gross of Dalhart, Vada O'Dell of Amarillo and Linda Stankey of San Clemente, California; special friend and neighbors, Bob and Louise Mulkey.
