Mark Lycan

A celebration of Mark's life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Panhandle Cemetery with First Baptist Church of Panhandle Pastor Joshua Light officiating. The world lost a sweet, lovable and caring soul on March 26, 2017 with the passing of Mark Stephen Lycan, 63, (Pampa, Texas) after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mark found great joy in making everyone around him happy. Anyone that knew Mark, would say he was always the life of the party. He went out of his way to put a smile on the faces of those he cared for, whether it be with a joke or a good deed.
Mark lived life to the fullest. In 1989, he met the love of his life, best friend and soul mate, Jenny Wade-Lycan and her daughter, Jamie Goswick, while working at the Celanese Plant in Pampa, Texas. In 1997, he married Jenny and his love for her was very evident. He devoted his life to caring and loving for "his bride" and her daughter.
Mark's career history is quite impressive to say the least. His 42 years of experience in the petrochemical industry took him all over the world. He managed multiple projects working for Fluor Corporation in Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Aruba and Valdez, Alaska, where he and his family lived for two years. In 1995, Mark, Jenny and Jamie packed up and headed back to Panhandle, Texas. Shortly thereafter, Mark showed up at the security gates of ConocoPhillips refinery in Borger, Texas with resume in hand and informed managers that they needed to hire him. Within a week, Mark secured a job as a contractor and in 1999 he was brought on as a full-time employee for ConocoPhillips.
Mark had the skill of mastering complicated projects on tight deadlines, with effective communication and proper team building. When ConocoPhillips needed the seemingly impossible done, or a project was in trouble and the company needed help with negotiations and contractual agreements, Mark was their man. He retired from ConocoPhillips in February 2011 and spent the last several works taking on projects as a consultant.
After retirement, Mark and Jenny bought their dream home. Mark spent a lot of his time tending to nature at their ranch-style home south of Pampa. He turned the property into a wildlife management and reserve in honor of his three grandchildren. The property sits on 12 acres, has a fishing pond and attracts some of the most beautiful wildlife in the Texas Panhandle.
Mark was born September 9, 1953 in Sacramento, California to the late Thomas Lycan and Jo Ann Lannon. He graduated high school in Channelview, Texas and attended Blinn College.
Mark is preceded in death by his brother, Jody Lycan; sister, Tina Lycan ; and daughter, Jamie Jo Lycan.
In addition to his wife, Mark is survived by his daughter, Jamie Goswick of Grand Haven, Michigan; sister, Dawn Pretorius of South Africa; and grandchildren, Kylan Cooper of Grand Haven, Michigan, Jaylee Mae Robinson of Houston, Texas; and Jameson Diana Farmer of Borger.
Mark made his mark on this world and will be missed by many and proof of that will continue to surround those who loved him for years to come. He and his family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all close friends, family and former colleagues who have been so supportive over the last several months. Your love and continued support during this tough time has made a big difference in our lives and is truly appreciated.
A viewing is scheduled for 5 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Minton Chatwell in Panhandle.
