Mary Ardath Moore Dunning (Ardie), 87, passed away June 7, 2015, in Eagle Nest, New Mexico. She was born May 2, 1928, in Quanah, Texas and was the daughter of James B. Moore, Sr. and Vala Joe Carloss Moore.
In Borger, Texas, Ardie was a member and President of the Paragon Women's Club. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She volunteered with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and other activities in which her children were involved. With friends, she was a co-founder of the Borger Cotillion. Ardath was co-chair of the Hutchinson County Red Cross with her husband Ernest. She was county chairman of an organization which helped handicapped children and chairman of a fund raising committee which raised money to benefit Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Tascosa. While living in Lubbock she was a member and President of the Lubbock Symphony Guild, served on the board of Hospice of Lubbock, was a member of Toastmasters, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lubbock. In honor of her service to the community, the Lubbock Committee for Women awarded her the Extra Mile Award for 1988.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Herlong Dunning, daughter, Amy Joe Dunning, her brother James B. Moore, Jr., and husband Glenn H. Thomson.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Dunning Slattery (Rem Slattery), and her son, Paul Moore Dunning (Shawn Powers), Step-son Richard Thomson (Pam Thomson); grandchildren Scott Slattery (Thuy-Ai), Sommer Slattery Blucas (Phillip), Hayden Dunning, Ian Dunning, Cammie Thomson Richards (Mark), and Andrew Thomson; two great-grandaughters Remi and Devy Slattery-Nguyen.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the United Church of Angel Fire. The family requests memorials be made to The United Church of Angel Fire, P.O. Box 949, Angel Fire, NM 87710 or a charity of your choice.
