Mary was born in Mt. Enterprise, Texas on October 7, 1917 to Charles Lee Madden and Emily Lawler Madden. She was the 8th of 10 children. She was the only one that was not given a second name, so she chose Mary as her first name before starting school. She was sickly as a small child and at the age of 13 was sent to Erick, OK with the oldest sister, Mrytle nurse and Dr. McGrath. While there she had her tonsils removed and got healthy Mary learned to play golf and loved the attention of an only child. She returned to her family home one and onehalf years later and soon after Mrytle died after complications of child birth. Mary grieved this loss all her life. Back at home she became best friends with Reba George who lived with her Baptist Minister. Being typical teenagers she told stories of them putting grandpas car in neutral, rolling it out of hearing range and going to a dance, both of which would have gotten them killed if found out. This was the same car that she learned to drive by driving around and around the farmhouse. Rebas cousin just happened to be Edward Stuart. They married in Erick, Oklahoma in 1937. She lived in Sayre, Oklahoma, Perryton, Texas, and Amarillo, Texas. Mary loved the plains and while away always longed to return. She worked for the Bureau of Reclaimation until retirement. With this job she had supervisor responsibilities and also got to travel. She liked to say that they sent her on Dam dedications and then would giggle. Very funny for someone that did not cuss She served on the board for the Amarillo Federal Credit Union, which she took very seriously, until she retired. Mary loved to cook, read everything and do crossword puzzles. She crocheted beautiful items from tablecloths to afgans, but had few herself she gave them all away. Mary loved to spend time with her family her kids were fine, but those grandbabies were the best She got to have Terri, Chuck and Shannon with her a lot until they were teens. She also got to spend special time with the Wofford bunch she loved weekends for the time spent with everything from doing lunch to fishing another love. Her daughter found out later that Jake got to learn to drive her little Mustang at a much earlier age that she knew driving his little sisters to the pool, etc. Heart attack
Mary truly thought she had the best looking, funnist, smartest, and absolutely greatest ever grandkids. Now the great grands she said there is a reason they are called great never took the smile off her face.
