Mcneal Purvis

McNeal Purvis, 87, of Borger, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 in Amarillo.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger, Texas with Reverend Leonard Forsythe, Pastor of Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Love at Westlawn Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Mr. Purvis was born October 28, 1925 in Albany, Oklahoma to James Gilbert Purvis and Mary Elizabeth McNeal. He came to Borger in 1946 and married Wanda Fay Harkins Owen December 14, 1973 in Borger, Texas. McNeal was an electrical supervisor for Phillips Petroleum in Borger, Texas where he retired in July of 1985. He was a member of the Unity Masonic Lodge 1242. He proudly served our country in the US Army as a Corporal. He traveled all over Europe, Alaska, and Canada with the 76th Infantry Division earning three battle stars. McNeal loved to fish and hunt.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Purvis three sons Gerald Neal Purvis and Stephen Mac Purvis both of Durant, Oklahoma, William D. Owen of Borger, Texas one brother, J.G. Purvis of California two grandsons Shane Purvis of Temple, Texas and Jason Owen of Amarillo, Texas, and granddaughter, Erica Kimble of Dallas, Texas, and two greatgrandchildren Abbi Owen and Charlotte Kimble.


Mr. Purvis was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lorene Campbell Purvis, two brothers, Elmer Wayne Purvis and Bobby Gene Purvis, and two grandsons, Todd Purvis and Mark Purvis.


Casket bearers will be William D. Owen, Jason Owen, Justin Kimble, Dale Gallaspy and H. A. Shipley
