Melba G. Sargent, 85, of Fritch passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 in Amarillo. Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 29 at the First Southern Baptist Church of Fritch. Burial will follow at the Stinnett Cemetery, under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Fritch.
Melba was born June 25, 1931 in Armstrong County, TX to Melvin Mayford and Ovie Alice (Smith) Tipton. She was a lifetime resident in the area where she was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church. Melba married the love of her life, Norman Leroy Sargent on November 21, 1948 in Pampa, TX. She was a member of the Pantex Federal Credit Union Advisory Board, and was secretary at Bob Johnson Ford. Melba loved camping, snowmobiling, and her grandkids.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law Lagusta and Lola Mae Sargent, brothers-in-law Tony Sargent, Jack Sargent, Winfred Sargent and Preston Sargent, her sisters-in-law, Maudean Rayburn, Jane Sargent, Audra Deahls and grandson, Cole Sargent.
She is survived by her loving husband Leroy; sons Norm Sargent and wife, Lisa of Borger, and Nathan Sargent and wife, Donna of Stinnett; daughter, Connie Short and husband, Neal of Stinnett; brother-in-law, Dallas Sargent of Kingfisher, OK; sister-in-law, Drucella Hamrick of Phoenix, AZ; niece, Eugena Mae Cowe of Conroe, TX; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Melba's honor to the Adult Congenital Heart Association, 3300 Henry Ave., Suite112, Philadelphia, PA, 19129, (888) 921-2242 or to Texas Scottish Rites Hospital, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, TX 75219.
