Mercedes Espino

Mercedes Espino, 87, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021.

Funeral service 11 am on Friday, September 10, 2021 at First United Methodist Church of Stinnett. Burial will follow in Stinnett Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.  The family will receive friends from 5:30-7 pm on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers her memory may be honored with a gift to BSA Hospice of the Southwest, 1910 Medi Park Drive, Amarillo, Texas 79106.

Mercedes was born April 11, 1934 in Matanzas, Cuba. She married Ramon Espino January 11, 1961 in Cuba. Mercedes was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Stinnett where she taught Sunday School.  Mercedes was a member of the United Methodist Women.  She was an educator in Cuba and also an aide at Borger High School for 11 years.  A proud grandma, she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, wanting the best for them always.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ramon Espino; and sisters, Julia, Chicha, Victoria; and brother, Luis.

Survivors include her daughter, Rebeca Cruz and husband Alfred of Stinnett; sons, Daniel Espino and wife Christy of Fritch, Peter Espino of Amarillo; five grandchildren, David Cruz and wife Lawanna, Michael Cruz, Emily Flores and husband Andrew, Sarah Espino, Allison Espino; three great grandchildren, Ares Cruz, Ada Cruz, Ezra Flores; sister, Maria Thomasa Gaskin of Miami, Florida; and a host of extended family.
